Writing

Nutrition Writer
Write reviews of food and nutrition books for my website www.goodfoodinfo.com. Created "The Pocket Grocery Guide," a laminated pocket reference to healthy shopping. Free-lance writer for newspapers and magazines.

Business Writer
Designer and principal writer of The Answers, a marketing book for Apple Computer that explains Macintosh computers to the small business market. Also concepted and wrote a series of five 12-page vertical-market booklets to explain the special capacities of Macintosh in accounting, law, advertising, real estate & engineering/architecture. Concepted and wrote creative PR materials for computer accessory firm.

Computer & Technical Writer
Author of three computer books: The Macintosh Advisor: Essential Techniques for Experienced Users (Hayden Books, 1986; with Ben Calica); The MS-DOS-Mac Connection (Brady/Simon & Schuster, 1988); and The Macintosh Small Business Companion (Brady/Simon & Schuster, 1989).
Q&A column, Macintosh Today, weekly August 1987-July 1988. Commentary column, Andrew Seybold's Outlook on Professional Computing, monthly 1987-88. Member of the InfoWorld Magazine Review Board 1983-87, writing regular reviews of Macintosh and IBM software and hardware. Free-lance writer of reviews and articles for publications including Lotus Magazine, MacWorld, MacWeek, and Byte. Author of two disk-based tutorials for Houghton-Mifflin Co.: DoMore with Lotus 1-2-3 and DoMore with IBM-PC.

Travel Writer
Author of the book
Take Your Kids to Europe an alternative-travel and parenting guide now in its 5th edition. Contributing editor for The Berlitz Travellers Guide to New England. Free-lance writer of travel articles published in newspapers and magazines including The Washington Post, The Chicago Sun-Times, The San Francisco Examiner, and Transitions Abroad. Monthly family travel columnist for R&R, a magazine for U.S. military families stationed in Europe.

Teaching & Training

Good Food Info
Developed an adult nutrition course, including handouts, interactive games, food samples and recipes. Marketed and delivered the course through adult education programs and private venues in Maine and New Hampshire. See details at www.goodfoodinfo.com.

The Summer Computer Institute
Founded an intensive immersion program for 300 business adults, and directed it for 5 years. Responsible for all planning, budgeting, curriculum development, marketing and staffing of four one-week courses; also instructed classes in Lotus 1-2-3, Excel, Mac/PC Connectivity and more.

Corporate computer trainer
Developed and presented training classes, primarily in spreadsheets, word processing and operating systems from 1983-1990. Services included needs assessment, courseware design and the presentation of comprehensive training programs to clients including W.R. Grace, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Codex, Congoleum Corporation, and several other companies.

Elementary School, including Reading/Writing
Formerly-certified elementary school teacher, experienced in teaching Kindergarten, remedial reading and intensive writing workshops.

Business Management

Overseas Sourcing & Purchasing
Helped a U.S. business with no overseas sourcing experience stay competitive in its market, by locating and managing foreign suppliers in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and India. Responsible for product design, art management, production logistics, QC, & shipping of over a million units per year; traveled to Asia 2-3 times each year.

Marketing and PR
Developed PR program, retail packaging and sales literature for rapidly-growing computer accessories firm. Worked with founder to develop strategy for expanding sales to Europe and Japan; hired bilingual personnel, planned and attended overseas & domestic trade shows.
